The Torrence Family Both of us, Daniel and myself (Karen), have been around goats for just about as long as we can remember. It's the lifelong love of goats that ended up bringing two former dairy goat showmanship competitors together again. Who knew ditching work to go spend a weekend in another state at a goat show with an old pal would eventually lead to marriage and a two legged kid?! I've been breeding and showing goats since I was about 5. Well, ok, I was just pretty much showing at age 5 and I'm going to have to give my mother, Barbara Andrews, some credit for the rest of the work! Daniel showed the Rice Patch herd for years and co-owned goats in the herd as well. As the years passed I've managed to try out every single breed of goat except Nigerians and participate in all the ADGA programs from Nationals and Conventions to DHIR and Linear appraisal. Although, I'm still considering that judges license... I've had grands and BIS's as well as last places and anywhere in between. But when it's all said and done, it looks like Lamanchas are what stuck for me after all the wins, losses, and experiences. Daniel loves his Nubians though and after he inherited the Rice Patch herd from our long time mentor Cindy McDowell(story below) I've managed to grow a bit fond of the long eared goats as well. We both have another love in our life now, our daughter Amber. We just hope and pray she loves goats as much as I do or I'm going to be one lonely mom at the goat shows! See you at the shows! Karen |
